FOOTBALL: Big Central Conference proposed realignment approved, pending appeals

The Big Central Conference’s proposed divisional realignment for the next two seasons has been approved by the committee, and will become official, pending appeals by member clubs.

Warren Hills has departed the BCC for the Northwest Jersey Conference, although the Blue Streaks will remain in the Skyland Conference for all other sports. That makes the BCC a 59-team league. The realignment moves the BCC from a 10-division format with 5-8 teams per division, to a 12-division conference with 11 of the 12 divisions featuring five teams, and one containing four clubs.

The realignment makes needed adjustments from a league alligned purely by group size. It not only shifts teams that have moved up or down in group this fall into a proper division, but moves more successful smaller schools – like Group 3 powerhouse Somerville – to bigger divisions, while dropping bigger programs who have struggled in recent seasons to lower divisions – like J.P. Stevens, which is coming off an 0-9 campaign.
