FOOTBALL: Bemidji State ranked 22nd nationally to open 2022 season

Aug. 15—WACO, Texas — The Bemidji State football team will officially have the No. 22 designation for the season opener.

The Beavers were ranked 22nd in the country on Monday in the American Football Coaches Association preseason poll for Division II, and

they'll carry that ranking into Week 1.

BSU garnered 137 points in the poll, edging out No. 25 Augustana's 99 points for the top designation in the NSIC. Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota State also received votes in the poll.

Defending national champion Ferris State earned the No. 1 spot, while Northwest Missouri State and Valdosta State rounded out the top three. Colorado School of Mines, which ended Bemidji State's season in the NCAA Tournament last fall, was ranked No. 4.

The Beavers ended the 2021 campaign with a 10-3 record and the most single-season wins in program history. They'll try to duplicate their success, starting with a Week 1 showdown against Minnesota State on Sept. 1 at Chet Anderson Stadium.
