Foley man charged with assaulting, threatening man and woman

MAYHEW LAKE TOWNSHIP — A Foley man faces assault charges for allegedly threatening a man with a gun and grabbing a woman by her neck, according to a criminal complaint filed in Benton County court.

Carl John Fuhrer, 49, faces a second-degree felony assault charge, a felony threats of violence charge and two misdemeanor domestic assault charges.

According to the complaint against him, Benton County deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 5700 block of 85th Street NE in Mayhew Township around 1 a.m. Thursday to the report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, police learned the situation was under control and Fuhrer had been detained, the complaint said.

A man at the scene told police Fuhrer pointed a handgun at him in the residence, the complaint said. Fuhrer eventually dumped the magazine out of the gun and threw the weapon on the ground.

The man said Fuhrer got agitated again and threatened to kill him and his daughters, and another woman said he grabbed her by the neck, the complaint said.

The man was able to push Fuhrer up against the window and hold him there until law enforcement arrived, and said Fuhrer attempted to headbutt him several times, the complaint said.

Deputies could smell the odor of an alcohol on Fuhrer and recovered a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, several loose .40 caliber rounds and a partially loaded magazine at the residence.

Fuhrer was transported to the Benton County jail for processing. His first appearance was Monday and his next court appearance is Dec. 16.
