Florida faces South Carolina again in opening round of SEC Tournament

The Southeastern Conference announced the seedings for its upcoming baseball tournament running from May 24-29 at the Hoover Metropolitan Complex in Hoover, Alabama. Included in the bracket released on Saturday was the Florida Gators, who received a No. 7 seed and were slotted into Bracket One.

The opening-round opponent for the Orange and Blue is the South Carolina Gamecocks, who they face in a single-elimination game that sends the loser home for the summer. Florida took two of three in the last series of the regular season from the ‘Cocks but did drop the final game at home, 4-1.

The Gators finished the season with a 35-20 record overall while managing to break even in conference play with just a 15-15 mark. Florida’s struggles against the SEC have held the team back all season and do not bode well for this year’s tournament.

The Gators and Gamecocks are slated to face off at 2 p.m. EDT on Tuesday in Congron Family Ballpark and will be broadcast on the SEC Network. The winner will advance to face the No. 2-seeded Texas A&M Aggies in College Station for the second-round double-elimination game.
