Florida COVID update: 2,122 more cases added to state tally

Florida on Tuesday reported 2,122 more COVID-19 cases and one death to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Miami Herald calculations of CDC data.

In all, Florida has recorded at least 3,628,264 confirmed COVID cases and 58,143 deaths since the pandemic began.

In the past seven days, the state has added, on average, 120 deaths and 2,357 cases per day, according to Herald calculations of CDC data.

FLORIDA COVID VACCINE RATES

About 12,660,652 eligible Floridians — 58.9% of the state’s population — had completed the two-dose series of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or have completed Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

VACCINATIONS IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND MANATEE COUNTY

Here’s how many people have been fully vaccinated in South Florida, according to the CDC.

▪ In Miami-Dade County, about 2,024,989 people, or 74.5% of the county’s total population, are fully vaccinated.

▪ In Broward County, about 1,224,547 people are fully vaccinated, or 62.7% of the county’s population.

▪ In Palm Beach County, about 890,190 people are fully vaccinated, or 59.5% of the county’s population.

▪ In Monroe County, about 51,413 people are fully vaccinated, or 69.3% of the county’s population.

▪ In Manatee County, about 221,515 people are fully vaccinated, or 54.9% of the county’s population.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida

There were 2,852 people hospitalized for COVID-19 in Florida, according to a Tuesday report by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, which compiled data from 232 Florida hospitals. The number of hospitalized COVID patients dropped by 61 from Monday’s report, when 256 hospitals submitted data. This continues a trend of decreasing hospitalizations.

COVID-19 patients take up 5.33% of all inpatient beds in the latest report’s hospitals, compared to 5.25% in the previous day’s reporting hospitals.

Of the people hospitalized in Florida, 788 people were in intensive care unit beds, a decrease of seven. That represents about 12.37% of the state’s ICU hospital beds compared to 12.9% the previous day.

Tuesday’s Miami-Dade County report said there were 333 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals on Monday, a decrease of 14 from the previous day’s report. Of the 36 new COVID patients, 27 (75%) had not been vaccinated. Intensive care patients numbered 93, an increase of two from the previous day.

Broward County’s Monday report said there were 275 COVID patients in the county’s hospitals, a decrease of eight from yesterday’s report.
