Angela Manley, Kent's Parks and Recreation director, said she decided to close the fitness center in December. Manley said the pandemic prompted her to take a closer look at the center because she knew attendance was low. She found out that the center had been losing money almost since its opening in 2013.

GovDeals, an online auction service, has 195 listings. Some of the listings have sets, so there are more than 200 items. The auction will run until 6 p.m. March 27.

There are treadmills, exercise indoor bikes, kettlebells, dumbbells, as well as large exercise equipment, such as leg presses. There are also smaller items, including exercise resistance rings, Zumba sticks, balance trainers and aerobic step platforms.

Starting bids range from $10 to $500, the highest price being for a trailer that was a former diner and that most recently served as a construction office.

Manley said there may be a lot of people who are looking for exercise equipment to lose their pandemic pounds.

"Because of the pandemic, I know there were people who couldn't find exercise equipment," she said. "They had to wait a long time to get them."
