A fire significantly damaged a strip mall in the 500 block of North Dirksen Parkway Tuesday evening.

A worker at Green Garden Tobacco alerted authorities around 9:20 p.m. about a fire that had started at the far north end of the building, formerly occupied by Luech Kustoms, an auto detailing and customization shop. Green Garden Tobacco is at the far south end.

Salon 1782 is also a tenant in the building. The businesses are separated by firewalls, said Springfield Fire Chief Brandon Blough.

The first two fire department units on the scene reported flames showing through the roof, Blough said.

Two additional engines, a truck and a battalion chief were summoned to the scene because of the size of the building, Blough added.

Springfield Fire Marshal Ed Canny said the structure probably would have to be torn down or face significant repairs and renovation. Canny said the smoke shop and salon would have to vacate for that to occur.

Luech Kustoms had relocated to 3051 Reilly Drive.

Those two businesses would be able to salvage contents inside, Canny added.

There were no injuries reported, Blough said.

Canny said the preliminary cause of the fire was "accidental electrical."
