Fire destroys house on Marion Road late Sunday

Jun. 14—No injuries were reported after a fire late Sunday destroyed a Southeast Rochester home.

Rochester firefighters were called about 11:50 p.m. for a report of a structure fire in the 3000 block of Marion Road Southeast. The house was fully engulfed by the time emergency responders arrived.

The home appeared to be abandoned and most likely unoccupied, according to a news release from the fire department.

The size of the fire forced firefighters to fight it from the outside as it was deemed unsafe to entered the home. Firefighters used hose lines for about an hour before the bulk of the flames were extinguished.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home is considered a total loss.

Rochester police, the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, Rochester Public Utilities, Minnesota Energy and Mayo Clinic Ambulance were all called to the scene.
