Fire damages Orwigsburg home, leaving 3 displaced

Aug. 14—ORWIGSBURG — Three residents have been displaced on Saturday afternoon after a fire damaged their home.

Firefighters were called to the home at 725 W. Market St. — the site of the former PawPrints Pet Salon — just before 4 p.m. Saturday, Orwigsburg Fire Chief Scott Rarick said. Fire companies in Orwigsburg, Landingville, Deer Lake and Schuylkill Haven responded to the initial call.

"Not long after the first alarm," Rarick said, a second alarm was issued, with additional units from Liberty Fire Company, Schuylkill Hose Company No. 2 and Pottsville Fire Department Rapid Intervention Team dispatched to the scene.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and is still under investigation as of Saturday night, Rarick said.

He said it is unclear when the fire was extinguished, although by 5 p.m., no flames were visible.

Two of the building's three residents were inside the building at the time of the fire, he said. Both escaped the scene unharmed. None of the residents' names are known as of this time, Rarick said.

"There was no need for assistance," he said. "They are staying with family members."

Following the alarms, a long stretch of Market Street was cordoned off, with road personnel directing motorists to alternate routes.

There were no injuries to any firefighters at the scene, Rarick said.

More information on the fire will become available as the investigation progresses.
