Fire causes significant damage to Eckles Township home

May 18—BEMIDJI — A home sustained significant damage after a fire broke out on Tuesday in Bemidji.

According to a release from the Bemidji Fire Department, at 9:37 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, firefighters responded to the report of a structure fire at 4007 Cardinal Road NW in Eckles Township.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a single-story house with an attached garage on fire. Smoke and fire also appeared to be extending into the home's attic space, the release said.

Due to the intensity of the fire, firefighters initially fought the fire from outside with a two-and-a-half-foot attack line. A second attack line was placed inside the house to prevent the fire from extending further into the home, the release said.

A total of 27 firefighters and 13 pieces of equipment responded to the scene. It took firefighters about 90 minutes to get the fire under control, and the total time spent on the scene was about five hours.

The house and its contents sustained significant damage, the release said. One firefighter also sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The fire is under investigation but appears accidental.

The Bemidji Fire Department was assisted by the Solway Fire Department, Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, Bemidji Ambulance Service, Minnesota Energy, Beltrami Electric, and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal's Office.
