Fight outside of East Peoria football game Friday night results in 2 arrests

The centerpiece of EastSide Centre is Corwin "Corny" Clatt Stadium with a turf football/soccer field and eight-lane track.

EAST PEORIA – Two juveniles have been arrested in connection with a fight outside of EastSide Centre last weekend during a high school football game.

Police Chief Rich Broderick confirmed the two were not students at East Peoria Community High School, which was playing football that night against Streator. The dispositions of their cases weren't known Wednesday. No injuries were reported, the chief said.

A 19-second video circulating on social media shows several youths kicking and punching each other. The video, taken on a cellphone, is very dark and it's hard to tell who is fighting, but the words "stop stop stop" are clearly heard.

The fight occurred outside of the stadium and, unlike what happened across the river at Peoria Stadium, the game wasn't interrupted.

Peoria high school fight:Peoria High, Metamora football fight makes PPS to alter sporting event rules; one arrested

East Peoria Community High School District 309 Superintendent Marjorie Greuter said in a statement that a few of the individuals involved were EPCHS students, but the majority were not.

"The individuals involved who are our students have received disciplinary consequences. Those who are not our students will be banned from all school property as a safety and security risk," she said. "Future presence on school property will be treated as trespassing. We take this kind of breach of rules seriously and we are committed to providing a safe environment for our athletes, students, parents, and community."

This is the second known fight from the opening night of high school football. A large fight in the stands at Peoria Stadium, where Peoria High School was playing Metamora, led to the forfeiture of the game by Metamora. A Peoria Public Schools resource officer banged a metal baton against a railing, causing many to think someone was shooting a gun. As a result, many fled the stadium in panic. Metamora chose not to finish the game a day later.

Peoria police have said they know of a dozen people they think were involved. So far, three teens – all juveniles – have been arrested in connection with the fight. The youths, ages 17, 16 and 15, were all Peoria Public Schools students and were booked on the charge of mob action. The dispositions of their cases were not immediately known.
