FIBA World Cup Quarterfinals: Argentina shocks Serbia, Spain knocks off Poland

Argentina played as perfect of a game as they needed to in order to take down tournament favorite Serbia 97-87 in the quarterfinals. Despite Serbia’s stars all being in double digits, it wasn’t enough with Argentina shooting 54 percent from the field and knocking down a tournament team high of 12 3-pointers. Kings guard Bogdan Bogdanovic finished with 21 points while Nemanja Bjellica added 18 points in Serbia’s loss. Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic had a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards. High scorers for Argentina were Luís Scola who finished with 20 points and Facundo Campazzo with 18. Argentina will play the winner of the USA vs. France game on Friday.

In today’s other quarterfinal, Spain eliminated Poland 90-78. Spain had solid performances from Suns point guard Ricky Rubio who had 19 points and 9 assists while Hornets center Willy Hernangomez added 18 points. Spain will face the winner of Australia vs. Czech Republic on Friday in the semifinals.
