Fettig breaks school record as Stars split with Bruins

Dec. 2—DOVER — One of Leelah Fettig's goals for this season was to break the 6- and 11-dive school records at Western Boone.

She got half of that done on Thursday night, setting the six-dive school record with a score of 275.85.

"We were so excited for her," Western Boone head swimming and diving coach Hayley Eadie said. "It's been a long time coming for her, she works so hard. Sometimes she goes and practices more after practicing here. After signing with Ball State yesterday and breaking the record today, it's been a pretty exciting week for her. I am proud of her."

Fettig's performance was one of many good ones for the Stars, who split with Tri-West in the pool on Thursday.

The WeBo girls won 118-62 and the Tri-West boys won 105-71.

"I think tonight was our best meet so far," Eadie said. "Our kids are getting into a groove with each of their races and figuring out how they are going to compete. I was pleased with how they did tonight."

Adelaide Jones and Arianna Stieber both won all four of their events on Thursday for the girls.

They teammed with Rashel Anderson and Katherine Aliff to win the medley relay in a time of 2:04.76, and with Hannah Hayden and Kaitlyn Crowley to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:09.65.

The medley relay team of Weakley, Jude Balke, Barnett and Ethan Barnett were second in 2:07.04.

Western Boone is back in action on Monday at McCutcheon.

"I'm really pleased with how we are doing, and how the underclassmen are learning how things work in high school and the different events," Eadie said. "A lot of the upperclassmen are stepping up into leadership roles and I really like where we are at. We have a few meets under our belts now, so we know what we need to do."
