Festival of Lights officially kicks off holiday season in downtown Worcester

WORCESTER — The sights and sounds of the holiday season filled Worcester Common Friday afternoon and evening for the Festival of Lights.

The annual event was highlighted by the lighting of the holiday tree and various illuminated sculptures, including creations from the New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, as well as performances by "The Voice" competitors Cara Brindisi of Worcester, and Kara McKee of Rhode Island.

The duo took the stage at 6 p.m., right after Santa, other special guests and city officials flipped the switch on the holiday lights in front of a large crowd.

Brindisi also joined a ribbon-cutting at the Common Oval outdoor ice rink to officially open another season of public skating on the Common.

A large crowd turned out to ice skate, admire the lights and to hear "The Voice" competitors Cara Brindisi of Worcester and Kara McKee of Rhode Island sing onstage (under the large tent) during the annual Festival of Lights celebration.
