FEMA opens Perry County disaster center. Here’s locations you can visit to get flood aid

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Tuesday it would open an additional disaster recovery center in Perry County amid ongoing recovery from the devastating July 28 floods in the eastern part of Kentucky.

The latest location is Hazard Community College at 1 Community College Drive in Hazard.

You do not need to be a Perry County resident to visit this FEMA site for help. Residents of Clay, Breathitt, Floyd, Perry, Knott, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Martin, Owsley, Pike and Whitley counties are all eligible for federal assistance and can visit any of the centers.

Other centers include the Knott County Sport Plex at 450 Kenny Champion Loop No. 8765 in Leburn, and Oneida Elementary School at 435 Newfound Road in Oneida.

The Oneida Elementary School location in Clay County will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Other operating hours for the sites are 7 a.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

FEMA’s individual assistance can help with temporary housing, home repairs and other uninsured, disaster-related losses and needs, like child care, transportation and medical, funeral or dental costs.

Residents can visit the center to get help or start their application, as well as speak with representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration and state agencies.

You can also apply online at disasterassistance.gov, using the mobile app or call 800-621-3362. Accommodations, such as video relay, are available.
