‘I felt nothing but safe’: Fans react to security presence in Downtown Atlanta for SEC Championship

There were people all over downtown Atlanta Saturday night from inside of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium to restaurants, but also security was out in full force.

Whether walking or inside their cars, security officers were around, and Ray Stringer told Channel 2′s Larry Spruill he noticed the extra safety presence, “Had many police around had many security. I felt nothing but safe anytime I come down here.”

UGA Fan Tony Hill said safety is something he takes seriously, “I’m the kind of person that feels like you yourself, need to be aware. Just making good judgment calls, of when and where to be somewhere at the same time, being with the right people at the right time, as well,” said UGA Fan Tony Hill.

Thousands of people wanted to be in the right place, at the right time, to cheer on the Bulldogs in the big SEC Championship game verses LSU.

Jared Williams was one of the many, who had to come and support his favorite team in person, “With the Dawgs, we’re going to repeat, this year. We’re going to go all the way. The way we’re looking at now, we’re looking strong,” said Williams.

The big win for Georgia and the fans feeling safe are good things for businesses like Sports Mania on the corner of Marietta Street and Centennial Olympic Park. They have been busy all weekend, with customers buying UGA merchandise. As soon as the game was over, they were ready to sell the SEC Champs T-shirts.
