Fayetteville police seek sexual assault suspect

Police have asked for the public's assistance in identifying a man who is believed to have sexually assaulted a woman early Thursday morning, a news release from the Fayetteville Police Department said Friday.

About 5:30 a.m., police went to the area of B Street in response to a sexual assault, the release said.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a woman had been walking down B Street at about 1:20 a.m. when she was approached by a man in dark-colored four-door Chevrolet Cruz or Impala, the release said.

The man offered her a ride and she accepted, the release said, she was later sexually assaulted by the man.

According to the release, the man was between 20 and 30 years old, light-skinned with a thin build, faded box-style haircut and was wearing a red short-sleeved shirt at the time of the attack.

The police are asking all people, but especially females, to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings when traveling alone, the release said.
