Fayetteville-area high school football games moved due to Hurricane Ian

Cumberland County Schools will move all of its Week 7 high school football games in an effort to avoid any effects from Hurricane Ian.

Cumberland County director of student activities David Culbreth on Monday afternoon announced the changes for the county’s 10 public schools. Six of the seven games will be played Thursday and Terry Sanford will host Pine Forest on Monday, Oct. 3.

Trinity Christian, Fayetteville's only private school program, has moved its game against Metrolina Christian Academy to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

With the projected path bringing Ian to North Carolina on Friday, Fayetteville Observer weather correspondent Chick Jacobs on Monday said the Cape Fear region can expect impressive rainfall by the end of the work week, with potentially blustery winds.
