A 24-year-old Riga woman died early Wednesday morning from injuries sustained when the vehicle she was driving in Whiteford Township reportedly left the roadway at high speed for unknown reasons.

The fatal traffic crash occurred at 1:48 a.m. Wednesday on South County Line Highway, south of Ottawa Lake Road, according to a press release issued by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Ronni L. Vansteenkiste-Amador, age 24, of Riga, was driving northbound in a gray 2010 Dodge Journey when, while in motion and for unknown reasons, her vehicle reportedly traveled off of the roadway to the east entering onto private property at the northeast intersection of Ottawa Lake Road. Her vehicle then entered and crossed over Ottawa Lake Road, coming to rest in the north side ditch.

Airbags in the Dodge Journey did not deploy, and Vansteenkiste-Amador was reportedly not wearing her safety belt when the crash occurred. She was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Toledo by Monroe Community Ambulance, where she was pronounced deceased from injuries suffered in the crash.

Members of the Ottawa Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by Deputies Hunter Chirillo and Christine Ost of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Uniformed Services Division along with Deputies Jon Cregar, Alec Preadmore and Steven Warren of the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division.
