Making the most of a sterling four-year tennis career, Tyler Cargould battled in his final post season for Cuyahoga Falls.

Cargould fought in singles play at the recent Akron Division I sectional championships at the Springside Athletic Club.

After an opening 6-0, 6-0 victory over Hudson’s Daniel Mondora, Cargould defeated Twinsburg senior Kevin Lin 6-0, 6-2.

That win led to an impressive win over Wadsworth’s Matthias Boland 6-0, 4-8, 1-0 (6) in Akron.

Head coach Ryan Margraf saw Cargould advance to a matchup against Revere’s third-seed standout Merit Wagstaff.

Cargould played well against the accomplished Wagstaff, who prevailed 6-2, 6-0 to eventually place fourth and become a district qualifier.

Four-year senior Zach Barnes played extremely well in singles action for the Black Tigers.

Batting for a first-round win over Stow-Munroe Falls’ Caleb Sun, Barnes came from behind to win 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (5).

Barnes also stood out in his next match against Hudson standout Will Chandler, who won 7-5, 7-5 in a tight test.

Falls also got good play in doubles action at the sectional.

Senior Brandan Schertz and first-year junior Lucas Lucena won a pair of matches for the Black Tigers!

In the opening round, Schertz and Lucena were 6-0, 6-0 winners and then produced a solid 6-3, 7-5 victory over Medina’s team of Emerson Kaczmarek and Owen Alber before falling 6-1, 7-5 in the following round to the Brecksville team of Andrew Youssef and Michael Strmac.

Zach Shutt won his singles match in the first round as he defeated Norton’ Garrison Stone 6-0, 6-2.

In the next round of action, Shutt ran into top seed and sectional runner up Elijah Hadler, of Median Highland, who won 6-0, 6-0. Shutt is an improving junior for the Black Tigers.

The junior duo of Preston Becker and Jacob Graham also captured a victory in doubles action in the sectional. They won 6-2, 6-0 over Akron North and played well in the following round before falling 6-0, 6-1 to the sectional runners up, the overall second seeded team of Sam Lazbin and Akshay Elango, of Revere.
