Explosion Reported at Industrial Plant in Warren, Ohio

The Warren Township Fire Department said it was investigating an explosion on Main Avenue in Warren, Ohio, on Saturday, February 18.

Video filmed by local resident Joe Lanza shows a plume of smoke rising from ArcelorMittal’s plant location on Main Avenue in Warren. The plant produces coke, a coal-derived fuel used for manufacturing steel.

In his post, Lanza said the explosion was heard “for miles around” and he initially thought a tree had fallen on his home.

Local news reports citing the fire department said the incident was caused by an explosion in the plant’s boiler room.
