Explorers spread Christmas cheer

Dec. 7—NORWALK — Norwalk Arts Center's Arts Explorers spread Christmas cheer throughout the community last weekend in their Art of Giving class.

"Our Arts Explorers participants learned that the art they create can be shared with others and that's a great lesson not just for the upcoming holidays, but for a lifetime of creative generosity," said Tiina Ruffing, arts education chairperson for NAC. "It's a perfect example of creating art and building community."

The youngsters, all in first through fourth grades, made jars of Christmas cookie mix to give as gifts and also made two tie-edge blankets to give to two boys facing medical crises in families served by The Piggyback Foundation. The students delivered the blankets to volunteers at When Pigs Fly as they started caroling through several uptown business, using jingle sticks they created to keep the beat for their songs.

They finished up the day painting and eating cookies and warming up with hot chocolate.

The next Arts Explorers program will be Saturday, March 4, 2023. A Norwalk Area United Fund grant provides funds for Arts Explorers. More information on NAC is available at norwalkartscenter.org.
