Exeter High School closed due to COVID cases

Apr. 15—Students at Exeter High School will learn virtually Friday after the school was shut down because of COVID-19 cases.

A message from Dr. Kimberly Minor, superintendent, said the closure also includes a cancellation of all after-school activities and sports from Thursday through Saturday.

In-person classes and extracurricular activities are slated to resume Monday.

The message from the superintendent did not specify how many cases have been reported at the high school or whether they were among students or staff. A COVID-19 dashboard on the district website says that the high school has had nine cases over the past 14 days.

The state recommends closing large buildings like Exeter High School for two to three days when six to 10 cases are reported over a two-week span in counties that have a substantial risk of community spread of COVID-19, as Berks County currently does.

The COVID-19 dashboard says that the high school has had a total of 96 student cases and 21 staff cases since Nov. 2.
