Ex- NFL RB Frank Gore charged with simple assault in domestic violence investigation in Atlantic City

Former NFL running back Frank Gore, the league's third all-time leading rusher, was charged with simple assault stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident at an Atlantic City, New Jersey, hotel, the Atlantic City Police Department said Tuesday.

Police said in a press release that officers were dispatched on July 31 to the Tropicana Atlantic City to respond to a report of a domestic violence dispute. Per police, officers found the alleged victim, a 28-year-old woman from Miami, speaking with hotel security. Police said the alleged victim "did not exhibit signs of injury and complaints were not filed" at that moment, but that a subsequent investigation led to Gore's being charged with simple assault.

Gore was issued a summons, pending a future court date, according to the police.

Gore, 39, signed a one-day contract in June with the San Francisco 49ers so he could retire as a member of the team. At the time, the franchise also said Gore would be the 31st inductee into the Edward J. DeBartolo Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame.

Gore had also said in April that he was working with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to see if he could transition to work in football operations and was trying to find a position with the 49ers front office.

Gore played 16 seasons in the NFL from 2005-2020 with the 49ers, Colts, Dolphins, Bills and Jets. He ran for 16,000 yards — third-most in NFL history — with 81 touchdowns and also added 3,985 receiving yards and 18 receiving touchdowns.
