Former Florida State quarterback Deondre Francois has found his new team.

Francois, a graduate transfer, has transferred to Hampton and will play his final two seasons of eligibility with the FCS school in 2019. He was on the practice field with the team on Friday, the first day of Hampton’s fall practice.

"I am very happy that Deondre Francois is joining our program," Hampton head coach Robert Prunty said in a statement. "He is a cerebral football player with unbelievable athletic ability. More importantly, he is an outstanding young man who graduated Florida State in three and a half years. We are ecstatic to have Deondre Francois in our program."

Francois was dismissed from Florida State in February after his ex-girlfriend posted a video to her Instagram account that featured audio of a man and woman fighting with a threat from him to her. The caption made reference to their relationship.

A day after Francois was dismissed, his girlfriend posted to social media that he had never hit her and that she was sorry for damaging his reputation.

It wasn’t the first time Francois had issues at FSU. He was previously involved in a domestic violence investigation at the start of 2018 — no charges were ultimately filed — and he was cited for marijuana possession after a police investigation that spring.

Francois started for two seasons at Florida State

Francois was Florida State’s starting quarterback during the 2016 season when the Seminoles went 10-3 and beat Michigan in the Orange Bowl. He was expected to take a step forward as a quarterback in 2017 but suffered a season-ending knee injury in FSU’s season-opening loss to Alabama in a year that saw Jimbo Fisher head to Texas A&M.

Francois competed with 2017 starter James Blackman for the starting gig ahead of 2018 and ended up as the team’s starter last season. But he was just 227-of-396 passing for 2,731 yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions as Florida State went 5-7 and missed a bowl game for the first time since 1981.
