Less than two weeks after season 3 premiered in October 2021, HBO announced that the Emmy Award-winning drama was confirmed for a fourth installment — exciting news for fans, considering the two-year wait between the show's second and third seasons prior.
The debut of Succession season 4 is slated to air just days after the cast hit the red carpet at the show's New York City premiere on March 20. Of course, the Roys were all in attendance — of which some actors teased what fans can look forward to with Waystar RoyCO's mogul and his power-hungry family.
Season 3 ended with a massive cliffhanger — especially with Matthew Macfadyen's Tom Wambsgans, who threw his wife (Shiv) and her family under the bus by informing Brian Cox's Logan Roy of their scheme. Macfadyen, who received an Emmy win for his supporting role, gave Deadline a glimpse of what viewers can expect of his character when the season premieres.
"They have a trail separation, Tom and Shiv, they're in a bit of a bad spot," the actor said, "They haven't really talked about it." Macfadyen added, "He's also slightly shaken with Logan as well. Logan blows hot and cold, and he's (Tom) not sure that he's put all his eggs in the right basket."
Meanwhile, Succession creator Jesse Armstrong opened up about his feelings toward a spinoff series. "I think it would be a fun parlor game that I would do with my pals, but I wouldn't say it publicly, as it might get misconstrued," he told the outlet. "I'd write for all of them, but I don't think any of them are ripe for an actual TV spinoff."
In addition to serving as creator and showrunner, Armstrong executive produced season 4 alongside Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble, Will Tracy, and Will Ferrell.

Along with the announcement that Succession season 4 is underway, HBO released an outline that details how the new season will follow the events of December's shocking finale.
The season four logline reads: "The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed."

Which cast members are returning to Succession season 4?

Brian Cox returns as head of the house Logan Roy, the sinister and often-scheming patriarch. He's joined by his four children: Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Connor (Alan Ruck), Siobhan (Sarah Snook), and Roman (Kieran Culkin).
Other stars returning include: Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun, J. Smith-Cameron, Peter Friedman, David Rasche, Fisher Stevens, Hiam Abbass, Justine Lupe, Scott Nicholson, Zoë Winters, and Jeannie Berlin.
In August, Deadline announced nine more familiar faces who are confirmed to return for round four. They include Karolina Novotney, Alexander Skarsgård, Arian Moayed, Juliana Canfield, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Hope Davis, Cherry Jones, Justin Kirk and Stephen Root.
When did production for Succession season 4 begin?
On June 27, HBO announced that production for Succession season 4 has officially begun filming in N.Y.C. The cable network shared a photo of the slate alongside the news on social media.
How many episodes will Succession season 4 have?
HBO confirmed that the new season will be 10 episodes long.
Is there an official trailer for Succession season 4?
HBO Max released an official teaser for Succession season 4 on Oct. 24, giving viewers a 40-second glimpse at what's to come.
Dominance is displayed by Cox's Logan Roy throughout the video, as a voiceover of his narration can be heard plotting his next move over the quick, yet powerful pictures of his kids uniting as the "rebel alliance." Fan-favorite Cousin Greg enjoying a celebratory moment is also featured in the clip.
In January 2023, the network released another, slightly longer teaser trailer. It revealed that Tom and Shiv's marriage might be collateral damage in the fight for company power. Meanwhile, Connor Roy and Willa Ferreya decide to tie the knot.
On March 2, 2023, HBO shared another trailer for the show's fourth season. In the clip, plenty of drama unfolds, including Kendall telling his siblings: "We were cut out behind our backs, but there's a shape for things for us" and suggests bringing in a handful of frenemies to help, calling them "death-wrestling ogres."
Later, Logan enlists Roman to ignite the company's deal with Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) then tells Shiv, Kendall and Connor: "I love you, but you are not serious people."
The trailer ends with Logan screaming to a packed room of Waystar Royco employees. "I wanna kill the opposition. Cut their throats! We are pirates!"

Succession season 4 will premiere on March 26, 2023, at 9 p.m. ET on HBO. In the meantime, the show's first three seasons are available to stream on HBO Max right now.
Will there be a Succession season 5?
In February 2023, showrunner Jesse Armstrong told the New Yorker that Succession will end with season 4.
"There's a promise in the title of Succession. I've never thought this could go on forever," he said. "I got together with a few of my fellow writers before we started the writing of season four, and I sort of said, 'Look, I think this maybe should be it. But what do you think?'"
Armstrong continued: "And we played out various scenarios: We could do a couple of short seasons or two more seasons. Or we could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong. And that was definitely always my preference."
