Marvel Studios continued its reveals from San Diego Comic-Con at Disney’s D23 Expo this weekend giving fans a wider picture of what film and TV shows to look forward to over the next few years.

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will officially kick off with Black Widow in May 2020, but there are a few new and returning shows that have been announced to arrive as it moves into Phase 5.

Here’s a round-up of every Marvel movie and series Disney has on its release schedule.

Marvel's Runaways

Showrunner: Josh Schwartz and Stefanie Savage
Cast: Rhenzy Feliz (Alex), Lyrica Okano (Nico), Virginia Gardner (Karolina), Ariela Barer (Gert), Gregg Sulkin (Chase), and Allegra Acosta (Molly)

Season 3 will continue to follow the misadventures of these super-powered teens trying to escape the clutches of their murderous parents. Elizabeth Hurley joins the cast as Morgan La Fey, a student of Merlin and one of the most powerful sorceresses to ever live.

"Elizabeth Hurley is joining the Marvel Universe and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her portraying one of the most enchanting Marvel characters,” Marvel Television’s Jeph Loeb said.

This is the last of Fox’s Marvel movies to be released and it has been a long time coming.

It follows five young mutants who are just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will. In this more horror-tinged Marvel offering, the mutants must fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.

Release date: April 3, 2020.

Black Widow

Director: Cate Shortland
Cast: Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), David Harbour (Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian), Rachel Weisz (Melina Vostokoff)

Set after the events of Captain America: Civil War, this solo movie sees Natasha return to the infamous Budapest to find her sister Yelena and reunite with her family.

The trailer suggests that her family is made up of Yelena and Melina, who are also Black Widow-trained super-spies, and Alexei and Natasha must deal with “some of the reds in her ledger”.

That includes a face-off with Taskmaster, the villain/antihero who has the ability to mimic the physical movements of anyone they witnesses.

Expect a lot of brilliantly choreographed, Jason Bourne-esque fight sequences and the MCU’s trademark humour to boot that will really give Natasha the send-off she deserves.

Release date: May 1, 2020.

The Eternals

Director: Chloe Zhao
Cast: Richard Madden (Ikaris), Kumail Nanjiani (Kingo), Angelina Jolie (Thena), Salma Hayek (Ajak), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos), Lia McHugh (Sprite), Don Lee (Gilgamesh), Gemma Chan (Sersei), Barry Keoghan (Druig), Kit Harington (Dane Whitman)

The most diverse cast of superheroes ever to grace the MCU, The Eternals will follow a group of god-like humanoids created from experimentations by Celestials (Ego from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is of this race) who most protect Earth from their evil counterpart The Deviants.

Chan’s role was announced at the D23 Expo, making it her second MCU oting after appearing as Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel.

Her character Sersei is an Eternal who lives in New York City among the humans and a romance with Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, is said to be a central part of the script.

Although, it might be more of a love triangle as Sersei had a relationship with non-Eternal Dane Whitman, AKA Black Knight, in the comic books.

Release date: November 6, 2020.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Showrunners: Jed Whedon, Maurissa Tancharoen, and Jeffrey Bell
Cast: Clark Gregg (Coulson), Chloe Bennett (Daisy), Ming-Na Wen (May), Iain De Caestecker (Fitz), Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter)

The seventh and final season of this series begins in New York City, 1931 where the team must fight to stop the Chronicoms erasing S.H.I.E.L.D. from the history books.

The trailer shows the formidable villains in action, stealing the faces of some police officers.

As it’s all about the origins of S.H.I.E.L.D., it would be ridiculous not to feature its founder Peggy Carter and thankfully she will pop up this season too.

Agent Carter fans will be pleased!

Release date: Summer 2020 on E4.

Marvel's Ghost Rider

Showrunner: Ingrid Escajeda
Cast: Gabriel Luna (Ghost Rider), Justin Prentice (TBC)

The Robbie Reyes’ incarnation of the Ghost Rider was a recurring character in season four of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but will embark on his own unique adventures in this solo series.

He lives on the Texas/Mexico border but is consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon, which he releases when trying to get vengeance for the innocent.

The series will feature under the Adventures Into Fear banner, along with Helstrom, which focuses on antiheroes with demonic powers.

Release date: 2020 on Hulu (UK channel TBC).

Marvel’s Helstrom

Showrunner: Paul Zbyszewski

Daimon and Ana Helstrom are the son and daughter of “a mysterious and powerful serial killer” who work together to track down “the worst of humanity.”

The characters seem to be based on similarities Marvel comic book characters Daimon Hellstrom, AKA Hellstorm, who first appeared in the Ghost Rider comics before getting his own Son of Satan series.

He has demonic abilities and the ability to travel back and forth between hell, as well as a sister called Satana, whose name seems to have been tweaked for the live-action series.

No casting announcements have been confirmed as of yet.

Release date: 2020 on Hulu (UK channel TBC).

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Showrunner: Malcolm Spellman
Cast: Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Sebastian Stan (WInter Soldier), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter), Daniel Bruhl (Zemo), Wyatt Russell (John Walker)

(Credit: Disney)
(Credit: Disney)

Sam Wilson and Bucky will be joined by Sharon Carter and new character John Walker (AKA U.S. Agent), the latter of which often comes up against Captain America in the comic books.

Now that Wilson has been passed the mantle by Steve Rogers, this could mean that he and Bucky come into conflict with Walker.

They will also likely come into conflict with Zemo, the main antagonist in Captain America: Civil War who tried to control the Winter Soldier and destroy the Avengers.

Series will begin production this October with The Handmaid's Tale Kari Skogland directing the six episodes.

Release date: August 2020 on Disney+.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Kevin Feige confirmed the title, release date and introduction of Scarlet Witch into the Doctor Strange solo universe. Feige said the film’s events would tie-in directly with the Disney+ series WandaVision, which will be interesting considering its 1950s-1960s sitcom aesthetic.

Co-writer C. Robert Cargill said that the villains would be Mordo and Nightmare, the ruler of a Dream Dimension as well as one of the Fear Lords.

Nightmare has the ability to draw power from the psychic energies of the subconscious minds of dreaming beings, and with “multiverse” in the title, we can likely expect Doctor Strange to visit this villain’s dimension.

This film, said by Derrickson to be the MCU’s “first scary movie,” seems set to introduce the multiverse narrative that plays such a massive role in the comics and could lay the groundwork for much of the stories going forward in Phase 4.

Release date: May 7, 2021.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Director: Taika Waititi
Cast: Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster/Mighty Thor), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie)

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA - JULY 20: (L-R) President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige, Director Taika Waititi and Natalie Portman of Marvel Studios' 'Thor: Love and Thunder' at the San Diego Comic-Con International 2019 Marvel Studios Panel in Hall H on July 20, 2019 in San Diego, California. The fourth Thor film will see the return of Jane Foster as she becomes Mighty Four alongside the OG Thor. The film is inspired by Jason Aaron’s The Mighty Thor storyline which Waititi described as “incredible, it's full of emotion and love and thunder,” before introducing Portman as the “only one person who could play that role."

Portman last acted in a MCU movie in Thor: The Dark World, but left after creative differences with Marvel Studios. Her return was a big deal for Jane Foster fans when it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con.

Jeff Goldblum may well be back as The Grandmaster too as he told EW, “there's a whisper of a thought or notion that I might have some participation in it.”

With the director confirming the script has yet to be finished that notion might become a reality.

Release date: November 5, 2021.

WandaVision

Showrunner: Jac Schaeffer
Cast: Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Paul Bettany (Vision), Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis), Randall Park (Jimmy Woo), Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau), Wyatt Russell (John Walker) Kathryn Hahn

(Credit: Disney)
(Credit: Disney)

This might be the most intriguing series of Disney+’s Marvel output.

WandaVision will be a sitcom inspired by The Dick Van Dyke Show and welcome back Dennings and Park’s Thor/Thor: The Dark World and Ant-Man and the Wasp characters.

A grown-up version of Monica Rambeau from Captain Marvel, joins the cast as well as Hahn’s character who was introduced at D23 Expo as “a nosy neighbor that’s stirring up chaos and causing trouble.”

With Scarlet Witch also appearing in the second Doctor Strange movie, could the events of WandaVision be set in a different multiverse to Earth-616?

It would certainly explain the sitcom set-up and vintage feel of the first poster.

Release date: 2021 on Disney+.

What If..?

Showrunner: A.C. Bradley
Cast: Pretty much every cast member of the MCU

(Credit: Hanna Flint)
(Credit: Hanna Flint)

This animated series is made up of 23 episodes and each one takes a plot from one of the 23 MCU movies and reimagines them if one thing was different.

In one episode it will see Peggy Carter injected with the super serum to become Captain Carter. Her costume will feature the Union Jack in a big way as she goes on adventures with a non-super serum Steve Rogers.

The Guardians of the Galaxy will also be featured with a black Star-Lord as well as The Winter Soldier fighting a zombie Captain America with Jeffrey Wright lending his voice as the narrator Uatu/The Watcher.

Release date: Summer 2021 on Disney+.

Hawkeye

Showrunner: TBC
Cast: Jeremy Renner (Clint Barton/Hawkeye)

(Credit: Disney)
(Credit: Disney)

This series will follow Barton as he trains up Kate Bishop to “be a better version of [Hawkeye]" and show her “how to be a superhero without superpowers," as Renner explained at San Diego Comic-Con.

Not much else has been revealed about the series other than it being a sequel to Avengers: Endgame so we’ll likely see Clint having to face up to the murderous five years he spent after the Decimation and before the defeat of Thanos.

Release date: Autumn 2021 on Disney+.

A live-action Ms. Marvel TV series was confirmed during D23 Expo with British writer and comedian Bisha K. Ali (Four Weddings and Funeral TV show) serving as showrunner.

Feige confirmed that the Muslim superhero will appear both in the series and in the live-action movies which could mean there is a Captain Marvel crossover.

“It was super surreal because Marvel Studios has never to my knowledge made a character into live-action that's only existed for six years,” Sana Amanat, Marvel’s VP of Content and Character Development as well as Ms. Marvel’s co-creator, said.

Release date: Ms. Marvel will debut on Disney+ after Hawkeye.

Black Panther 2

Director: Ryan Coogler
Cast: Chadwick Bosema (Black Panther), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Danai Gurrira (Okoye)

D23 EXPO 2019 - The Ultimate Disney Fan Event - brings together all the worlds of Disney under one roof for three packed days of presentations, pavilions, experiences, concerts, sneak peeks, shopping, and more. At D23 Expo, Coogler confirmed the release date of the new movie but refused to reveal any more details regarding its title, plot or main villain.

There were rumours that Erik Killmonger might return because of his popularity following the first film as well as theories that Namor could appear because of an Avengers: Endgame reference.

Coogler is taking his time to get the script right so we will have to wait and see.

Release date: May 6, 2022.

Blade

Director: TBC
Cast: Mahershala Ali

If anyone was going to reboot Blade, Mahershala Ali was the only choice; The Oscar winner was confirmed as the new half-vampire hero at San Diego Comic-Con and it was revealed that he approached Marvel about joining the MCU.

“When Mahershala calls, you answer,” Feige told the Hollywood Reporter.

Blade will not be apart of Marvel’s Phase 4 releasing so we have a while to wait to see Ali in action.

Release date: TBC.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Director: James Gunn
Cast: Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), VinDiesel (Groot), Dave Bautista (Drax), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Zoe Saldana (Gamora)

The Guardians of the Galaxy (Credit: Disney)

After Gunn was fired and rehired to make his third Guardians movie, its production date had to be pushed back as the filmmaker landed The Suicide Squad job in between. This means the movie may well not start shooting until late 2020 at the earliest and will be an instalment of Phase 5.

Gunn has said that his brother Sean Gunn will be back as Kraglin and hopes both Elizabeth Debicki and Sylvester Stallone will reprise their roles as The Sovereign's High Priestess Ayesha and Stakar, respectively.

Chris Hemsworth has shown interest in appearing in the film after Avengers: Endgame saw Thor leaving New Asgard in Valkyrie’s hands as he joined the Guardians in space.

It seems likely he’ll be joining their adventures which may see them on the trail of 2014’s Gamora who did, in fact, survive Tony’s Snap.

Captain Marvel 2

Director: TBC
Cast: Brie Larson (Carol Danvers), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury)

Feige has confirmed there would be a second film but nothing more though the Spider-Man: Far From Home post-credit scene hints that Nick Fury will be involved.

It was revealed that he and Maria Hill were being impersonated by Skrulls while the real Fury was commanding a Skrull spaceship. This hints that Captain Marvel’s next adventure will follow the comic book’s lead as she deals with threats in other galaxies.

As Carol says in Avengers: Endgame, “There are a lot of other planets in the universe,” that she had to look out for and hopefully we’ll see some of them in the sequel.

Release date: Disney publicity said upcoming films would be released on February 18, May 6, and July 29, 2022, so it’s likely Captain Marvel 2 will be one of them.

Marvel's Cloak & Dagger

Showrunner: Joe Pokaski
Cast: Olivia Holt (Tandy/Dagger) and Aubrey Joseph (Tyrone/Cloak)

No details about season 3 have been revealed but Tandy and Tyrone will be showing up in a special crossover episode of Marvel’s Runaways Season 3, so it’s likely not over for these characters yet.

Return date: TBC on Amazon Prime

She-Hulk / Moon Knight

(Credit: Disney)
(Credit: Disney)

At D23 Expo, Feige confirmed that live-action series for Moon Knight and She-Hulk were being developed for Disney+.

She-Hulk is lawyer Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner, who gains mild powers from the gamma radiation in his blood which she needed for a life-saving transfusion.

After the success of Jessica Jones as a private eye, the storyline may factor in Dan Slott’s run which saw her act as a lawyer dealing with super-powered cases.

Moon Knight is a Jewish-American boxer called Marc Spector who becomes the avatar for the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu on Earth and begins fighting against injustice.

However, being possessed further fractured Marc’s psyche causing him to develop a multiple personality disorder.

All we’ve been given for these two series are the title design.

Fox’s Marvel films will now be under the creative control of Marvel Studios and Feige who said at San Diego Comic-Con “we didn’t have time to talk about Fantastic Four” and “we didn’t have time to talk about ‘the mutants,” suggesting there was something to talk about.

We’ll probably have to wait until Phase 5 before anything concrete is confirmed.

On Deadpool 3, David Leitch said that they were developing the movie but it may not receive an adult rating.
