Everton 'remain hopeful' of appointing Carlo Ancelotti as manager

Carlo Ancelotti is still in talks with Everton as the Toffees look to appoint the Italian as their new manager.

The former Real Madrid and Chelsea boss, 60, has been identified as the Merseyside club’s top target following his sacking by Napoli.

And, according to the BBC, the club are hopeful of appointing him as Marco Silva’s successor.

The report adds that interim manager Duncan Ferguson will remain in charge for the weekend clash against Arsenal regardless of whether Ancelotti is appointed.

The former Everton striker is expected to remain at the club once a managerial appointment is made having made a helpful contribution during his time at the helm.

Following Silva’s sacking, Ferguson helped his side to a victory against Chelsea, a draw against Manchester United and a penalty-shootout defeat in the Carabao Cup to Leicester on Wednesday.

He has reinvigorated what had become a toxic atmosphere around Goodison Park and set the foundations for improvement for the next manager.

That will be Ancelotti, if majority shareholder Moshiri has his way.

Signing the Italian would be seen as a coup for the club following his experience at a raft of top European clubs, with his CV also featuring AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.
