Euphoria and A Wrinkle in Time actress Storm Reid has been cast in HBO's The Last of Us adaptation.

She has joined the apocalyptic drama's cast as a character called Riley, who has been described as an orphan girl growing up in post-apocalyptic Boston.

She joins a pretty impressive cast who are taking on the task of adapting the popular 2013 PlayStation game into a TV series.

The Last of Us centers on Joel Miller, a cynical and hardened apocalypse survivor who is tasked with ferrying Ellie, a 14-year-old girl who potentially holds the secret to killing off the outbreak's virus, out of an oppressive quarantine zone.

During the pair's journey across the desolate US, the prickly pair start to develop an unlikely bond as they find themselves facing off against both infected creatures and human enemies.

The Last of Us TV series comes from Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl's Craig Mazin, with The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal as smuggler Joel and Game of Thrones' Bella Ramsey as his companion Ellie.

The series brings many other of the games' most popular characters to the TV screen for the first time, including Joel's brother Tommy (Agents of SHIELD's Gabriel Luna), resistance leader Marlene (Sons of Anarchy's Merle Dandridge), and Joel's partner Tess (Mindhunter's Anna Torv).

Pascal recently shared the first official look at The Last of Us last year as filming kicked off on Instagram showing himself and Ramsey on set with the caption: "I got you, baby girl. The @hbo adaptation of #TheLastofUs is in production. @playstation @naughty_dog_inc #TLOUDay #HappyBirthdayJoel."

HBO has announced that the first season of The Last of Us will premiere in 2022.
