Erie police seek video, get little cooperation from victims, parents in westside shooting

Erie police detectives seek video to help them identify suspects in a Monday afternoon shooting after authorities said the juvenile victims and their parents offered little cooperation in the investigation.

The shooting was reported on Monday at about 3:28 p.m. at the intersection of Cherry Street and Stafford Avenue. Officers who responded to the shooting were told that four to five male juveniles had run into a residence on Cherry Street after two suspects, both wearing ski masks, fired gunshots, Erie police Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said Tuesday.

At least three shots were fired at around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, in the 3000 block of Cherry Street, just north of Erie High School. No one was injured in the incident, but at least one bullet struck this Honda Civic, which was parked on the west side of the 3000 block of Cherry Street at the time of the shooting.

No one was injured in the shooting, but one of the bullets struck a tire on a parked vehicle, Lorah said.

Officers collected several 9 mm shell casings at the scene, he said.

Police went to the residence where the victims were seen running into and spoke to the juveniles, who said they were shot at but were less than cooperative in providing additional information, Lorah said. He said the parents of the juveniles also did not want to cooperate in the investigation.

The shooting suspects were seen fleeing the area along Stafford Avenue, Lorah said. City police major crimes detectives are searching the area for security cameras, and he asked anyone in the area who may have surveillance video from the time of the incident to call the police.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective David Madurski at 814-870-1508.
