Did you know Black-owned handbag brands exist? Even as a Black woman, I’ve been sleeping on fashion accessories designed by my own people. Despite the stressful times for Black people and business owners, Twitter discovered (and made viral) an entire thread of Black-owned handbags to shop. And I’m also proud to say many of these handbag websites have since crashed since the thread went viral.

User Weighted Blanket Stan amassed over 84,000 likes on Twitter and more than 39,000 retweets since spilling the deets. Oh, and the canvas purses, backpacks and bucket bags are coming in clutch. In other words, they’re truly a sight to see. From the high-end Telfar bags (which are all now sold-out) to the beautifully beaded Bead Bag from Jumzs, there’s something more unique about these Black-owned bag brands than the mainstream luxury designer bags.

It’s no secret that Black designers don’t get the same recognition as white designers. And while the opportunities for visibility and funding aren’t the same for Black designers, their products still have stellar quality.

If you’re looking to support Black-owned handbag brands on a budget, there are a ton of cute totes from My Eccentric Kloset. But, if you want something high-end and don’t mind shelling out a few extra dollars, brands like Tote and Carry and Edas stock some seriously luxe-looking bags. Take a peek for yourself at some of these cute Black-owned handbags that are already running out fast.
