Enquirer names Greater Cincinnati high school athletes of the week, Feb. 3

In a vote that ended Feb. 3, Cincinnati.com readers selected the Cincinnati Enquirer Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Jan. 29.

Winners will receive certificates by the end of the sports season.

The Athlete of the Week voting occurs during all high school sports seasons and recognizes athletes across all sports.

Ohio boys basketball team of the week: Oak Hills – The Highlanders took down Sycamore 57-55 in overtime on Jan. 24 and followed with a 54-51 win at Lakota West.

Ohio girls basketball team of the week: Badin – Badin avenged its only conference loss of the year by topping Alter 79-56 before a 63-29 win against Fenwick to move to 17-2 overall.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys basketball team of the week: Bellevue – Bellevue topped Heritage Academy, Dayton and Francis Parker to match its longest winning streak of the season.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls basketball team of the week: Boone County – A 56-45 win over Oldham County ended a six-game losing skid for the Lady Rebels.

Boys winter team of the week: Ross swimming – The Rams ended Talawanda’s long streak of ECC titles with 221 team points.

Girls winter team of the week: Turpin swimming – Turpin scored 325 points to claim the ECC title for the fifth time in six seasons.

Ohio big-school boys basketball player of the week: Jaxon Schreiber, Oak Hills – Schreiber combined for 48 points in a pair of wins over Sycamore and Lakota West, helped by going 22-24 on free throws.

Ohio small-school boys basketball player of the week: Connor Boehm, Deer Park – In a Jan. 27 game at Mariemont, Boehm had 20 points, eight rebounds, three steals and an assist.

Ohio big-school girls basketball player of the week: Anna Swisshelm, West Clermont – Swisshelm’s 27 points were her season-high led the undefeated Wolves to a win at Walnut Hills.

Ohio small-school girls basketball player of the week: Angela Jones, Felicity-Franklin – One of the SBC’s top scorers, Jones returned after seven games with nine points, four rebounds, two steals, two blocks and an assist.

Northern Kentucky boys basketball player of the week: Zach Mertens, Bellevue – He recorded a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Heritage Academy.

Northern Kentucky girls basketball player of the week: Sydni Massey, Bellevue – She averaged 26.5 points in two games for the Tigers, scoring 29 against Newport Central Catholic and 24 against Dayton.

Ohio boys bowler of the week: Ty Atkinson, Ross – His season high series of 473 led the Rams to a win over Fairfield. He also rolled a 321 series against Mt. Healthy.

Ohio girls bowler to the week: Isabelle Peck, Batavia – She set school records for a single game (278) and series (461) in a win against New Richmond.

Northern Kentucky boys bowler of the week: J.D. Hitt, Campbell County – He qualified for the KHSAA state tournament our of Region 5, finishing in fourth place with a high game of 213.

Northern Kentucky girls bowler of the week: Molly DeSola, Highlands – She qualified for the semifinals at the Region 5 tournament, rolling a high game of 164.

Gymnast of the week: Tanvi Mayya, Sycamore – She finished fourth all-around with a score of 34.375 at the Turpin Invite after finishing second in the bars, eighth on the beam, 15th on the floor exercise and 20th in the vault.

Ice hockey player of the week: Adam Ganz, Moeller – The senior scored a goal in the 2-1 win over Dublin Jerome Saturday.

Ohio boys swimmer/diver of the week: Conner Norton, Ross – The junior won the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races at the Jan. 28 Southwest Ohio Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. He also anchored the winning 200-yard medley relay and led off the winning 400-yard freestyle relay

Ohio girls swimmer/diver of the week: Anabelle Smith, Ross – The senior won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly at the Jan. 28 Southwest Ohio Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.

Ohio wrestler of the week: Nathan Kulbe, Batavia - He secured his 150th career win on his way to winning the 144-pound weight class at the Milford Invitational.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana wrestler of the week: Jason Ford, Covington Catholic – He took fourth place in the 133-pound weight class at the Milford Invitational, pinning two of his opponents in less than a minute.

Boys archer: Alex Graman, Beechwood – He placed third at the Summit View Shootout with a score of 288, including shooting two 50s at 10 meters.

Girls archer: Ava Boertlein, Notre Dame – She notched her first win and highest score as a freshman, winning the St. Henry tournament with a score of 283.
