It's just about closing time on the girls basketball regular season, with the majority of teams prepping for the upcoming districts tournaments.

Many area teams have built up major momentum heading into the postseason while others are still looking through that breakthrough victory.

With that being said, here are this week's girls basketball power rankings.

No. 10: Maclay

Record: 6-9

Last result: vs. Hamilton County L 57-32

FHSAA ranking: No. 57 (3A)

For having one of the youngest squads in the Big Bend this season, Maclay has had a strong showing. The Marauders are only three games out of a .500 record and have a chance to near that record before districts, taking on NFC and Hamilton County at home.

Freshman Lauren Guyer has been the go-to point-getter for the Marauders, averaging 9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Sophomore Aleeza Moore has also gotten into a rhythm with 7 points and 7 rebounds per game.

No. 9: Gadsden County

Record: 7-11

Last result: vs. Floirda High L 79-40

FHSAA ranking: No. 42 (4A)

Gadsden County has had an interesting past few weeks. Since falling to Lincoln earlier this month, the Jaguars have fallen into a win-loss pattern. They most recently fell to Florida High by 39 in a rescheduled game. It doesn't get easier heading into districts as the Jaguars face West Florida on the road next week.

No. 8: Aucilla Christian

Record: 16-5

Last result: vs. Countryside Christian W 58-31

FHSAA ranking: No. 16 (2A)

The Warriors still have one regular-season game left against Eagles View but is wrapping up yet another successful regular season. Aucilla dominated the Florida small private school circuit, going 11-2. It also picked up notable wins over Lafayette and Chiles. Senior forward Jenna Lindsey is averaging 12 points and 16 rebounds per game, alongside teammate and leading scorer junior guard Sammi Drawdy at 14 points per game.

No. 7: Chiles

Record: 12-9

Last result: vs. Suwannee W 44-30

FHSAA ranking: No. 55 (6A)

Chiles has built some nice momentum heading into the second chapter of its season. It has rattled off three straight wins after a loss to Godby, defeating Lincoln. St. John Paul II and Madison County. It has one more obstacle before district play, taking on 2A power Munroe.

No. 6: Munroe

Record: 12-5

Last result: vs. Rickards L 55-33

FHSAA ranking: No. 10 (2A)

Despite suffering its first loss in over a month, Munroe remains one of the top powers in 2A. Mya McCullar and Travonda Jackson have been dominant on the scoring front. McCullar is averaging 13 points per game and Jackson and 12 ppg. McCullar has also added 12.3 rebounds per game, adding herself as one of the few Big Bend players to be averaging a double-double.

Traniha Jackson is also nearing that double-double average with 9 points and 9 rebounds per game. Munroe has a few more hurdles before districts, hosting Altha and traveling to Chiles.

No. 5: Madison County

Madison County sophomore Ja'merial Weatherspoon (20) takes the ball down court in a game against FAMU DRS on Jan. 22, 2022, at Madison County High School. The Rattlers won 58-31.

Record: 13-6

Last result: vs. Lainer County W 60-29

FHSAA ranking: No. 5 (1A)

Following back-to-back losses, Madison County bounced back in a major way with a 31-point win over Lanier County. The losses may have benefitted the Cowgirls in the long run as they went head-to-head with one of the top teams in 2A, FAMU DRS, and another strong 6A team in Chiles. With .500 Suwannee on the horizon, this could be a big momentum stretch for the Cowgirls.

Sophomore Janiyah Mcknight continues to power this Madison County squad, averaging 14.9 points per game. Junior Nia Long is averaging 9.9 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. After a challenging stretch, this is where Madison County could do some damage.

No. 4: Leon

Leon sophomore Nia Simillien shoots a 3-pointer as Lincoln beat Leon 58-47 on Jan. 9, 2020.
Leon sophomore Nia Simillien shoots a 3-pointer as Lincoln beat Leon 58-47 on Jan. 9, 2020.

Record: 10-9

Last result: vs. Godby W 57-34

FHSAA ranking: No. 31 (6A)

This is crunch time for Leon as in the midst of a pretty diverse final stretch of regular-season games. It is coming off a loaded week where it faced Orange Park and Wekiva. It topped Godby by a wide margin and faces Oakleaf and Port St. Joe to finish out the regular season.

Senior Taylor Newman leads all scorers with 12.6 points per game, while junior Madeline Penney (11.9 points per game) and senior Nia Similien closely follow (11.8 points per game). Leon is a strong team in the Big Bend but needs to get that breakthrough win to get something going when its win or go home.

No. 3: Rickards

Rickards senior Daija Smith (23) dribbles the ball into Florida High territory in a game against Florida High on Jan. 11, 2022 at Rickards High School. The Seminoles won 56-49.

Record: 11-4

Last result: vs. Munroe W 51-33

FHSAA ranking: No. 9 (5A)

Rickards is slowly closing the gap between the No. 3 spot and FAMU DRS for second. This team has won eight of its last nine and nearly handed Florida High its first Big Bend loss of the season. It's coming off a dominant win over Munroe and has Lincoln to close out the regular season.

Senior Jakiyah Robinson is averaging 14.5 points per game. Senior Mckenzi Lyons closely follows with 11 points per game and freshman Genesis Henry has emerged as a force with 8 points per game. You're going to want to keep an eye on this Rickards squad as the postseason rolls around.

No. 2: FAMU DRS

FAMU DRS senior forward Ameari Logan (14) dribbles around a Madison County defender in a game against Madison County on Jan. 22, 2022, at Madison County High School. The Rattlers won 58-31.

Record: 11-3

Last result: vs. Madison County W 58-31

FHSAA ranking: No. 5 (2A)

FAMU DRS hasn't missed a beat this season, with its three losses coming to 3A power Florida High (twice) and 5A No. 3 Orange Park by 1 point. Outside of those three games, the Rattlers have rolled through their regular-season schedule and controlled their opponents with an aggressive press.

Senior Ameari Logan continues to dominate the scoring front at 20.2 points per game. Senior Alexandria Reddick has followed at 8 points per game. This may not be a team that puts up the most points, but it has found ways to constrict their opponents through its aggressive defense and speed.

No. 1: Florida High

Florida High senior Audia Young (21) drives to the hoop in a game against Wekiva on Jan. 21, 2022 at Florida High. The Seminoles won, 55-45.
Florida High senior Audia Young (21) drives to the hoop in a game against Wekiva on Jan. 21, 2022 at Florida High. The Seminoles won, 55-45.

Record: 14-3

Last result: vs. Gadsden County W 79-40

FHSAA ranking: No. 5 (3A)

The Seminoles picked up a huge win over Wekiva, which is still ranked as one of the top three teams in the state. The Seminoles have one more healthy challenge left in the regular season against Pine Forest.

Seniors Tonie Morgan and Audia Young have kept their games consistent and dominant while bringing in the rest of their teammates into the mix. Junior Laniyah Gennie has emerged as a viable option from downtown and junior Chrissy Faust has played a major role at center. This is a dangerous Florida High squad that has just tapped into some serious momentum.
