Emmerdale's Emile John has revealed whether he'd like his character Ethan Anderson to pursue a relationship with Luke Posner.

Speaking to Inside Soap, he said it's not something he'd like to see happen: "Personally, I think Ethan deserves someone better than Luke! Ethan is pretty rounded and put together, so Luke's dishonesty would repel him."

Earlier this year, Ethan confronted Luke about his sexuality, when he learned the latter had been with Steven for several months, rather than the "one-off thing" Luke had claimed their relationship was.

As Luke continued to insist that he isn't gay, Ethan expressed his concerns that Luke was stringing his girlfriend Victoria along and that she could get hurt, but Luke denied it and told Ethan to mind his own business.

"I'm a straight man, with a girlfriend that I love," Luke told Ethan. "Accept it or not, but either way, shut up and butt out."

Despite the obvious history between the two characters, Emile says he didn't know there'd be a connection when he started on the soap: "There was no reference to it prior to them meeting for the first time on screen.

"Although the fact that they were both plunged into this really awkward and intense first introduction makes for better drama and more possibilities!"

Awkward encounters with Luke aside, Emile (who's been nominated for the Best Newcomer award at the NTAs) also revealed that he has a great relationship with Kevin Mathurin, who plays Ethan's dad Charles: "I consider Kevin to be like a true brother. We speak every week, whether we're working or not.

"He's offered some really sound advice – I just know that if anything's troubling me, or I need support, he's there for me. I'm truly blessed to have begun my career as an actor working alongside him."

Emmerdale currently airs Mondays through Fridays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode on Thursdays at 8pm.
