Last Christmas star Emilia Clarke isn't pleased with all the potential spoiler talk surrounding her new George Michael-inspired movie ahead of its official 15 November release.

With the festive film named after the popular Wham! song, once the trailer was released fans began to speculate that the lyrics could've been translated very literally onto the film's plot with some guessing that Clarke's character's love interest Tom (Henry Golding) might not be all that he seems.

But the Game of Thrones star has suggested that it's "more complicated" than that.

"It's bloody annoying. Frustrating. It's more complicated than people are guessing," she told IndieWire.

Clarke also shared how writer and co-star Emma Thompson and her husband Greg Wise had a technique for refining the twist, explaining: "Emma and Greg wrote this script together, but they sent the script to all of their friends and it was only ready when their friends didn't see the twist coming and couldn't guess until it happens, so that's where it comes from.

"It's just frustrating."

The 33-year-old went on to comment on the nature of spoiler culture, as she observed: "Our world's literally on fire, so I think that there's a lot of things outside of people's control, so when it comes to this kind of stuff, they can do something with it and want to.

"It's done with so much fervour, it's done with a huge amount of energy and all that is, is misdirected energy."

She chose a cosy Christmas-themed ensemble for the red carpet event, cinching in her tiny waist with a matching belt. Accessorising the blue two piece with a pair of nude heels she posed with one hand on her hip. Her long-sleeved top featured buttons down the front and a diagonal ruched pattern was visible in the fabric. The matching skirt reached the actress' ankles and offered a stylish slit down the front. She styled her brunette tresses in short curls and added a dazzling red lip.

Director Paul Feig has previously shared that although he couldn't quite get his head around all the fan theories the trailer generated, he was glad it got people talking.

He told Yahoo Movies UK: “I just have to laugh. Why would people watch a trailer for a Christmas movie and suddenly think it's The Matrix or something? I was like, ‘wow, you guys are working really hard to make this into something.’

“But hey, if people are engaged... You know, I've had trailers come out and people just go ‘meh’. Ergh, what?! So the minute they're talking about all this stuff, I'm like, ‘Awesome, they're talking about it.’”
