New Ellenton holds annual Christmas parade with candy galore

Dec. 5—Main Street in New Ellenton was packed Saturday, as dozens of vehicles, floats and people participated in the city's annual Christmas parade.

The procession was filled with notable people and groups, including U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C.; the Silver Bluff football team, fresh off an appearance in the Class AA state championship game; S.C. Rep. Bill Taylor, R-Aiken; and the region champion Silver Bluff volleyball team.

Silver Bluff football head coach De'Angelo Bryant could be seen in the golf cart for the parade's grand marshal, along with the team's state runner-up trophy.

Each vehicle in the cavalcade was stocked with a variety of candy, including Smarties, Milky Ways, Reese's and Rolos. Hundreds of pieces were slung out onto the street for children and adults to get as many sugary sweets as their hearts desired.

The parade route was roughly a mile, starting at the Ellenton Village shopping center, before running down Main Street and ending at St. Paul United Methodist Church.
