Elkhart Christian makes softball history with sectional crown

It was quite a historic moment Saturday for the Elkhart Christian Academy softball program.

The Eagles claimed the first sectional championship in program history in emphatic fashion.

ECA downed host and No. 10 Fremont 4-2 in the finale of the Class 1A Fremont Sectional.

The Eagles advance to play at North Miami in a regional game Tuesday night.

ECA improved to a school-record 15 wins with the upset victory. The Eagles had lost 18-4 to Fremont during the regular season. Coach Brett Ehninger's squad, which won three games a season ago, continued an amazing run this spring.

Northridge made it three straight sectional titles by crushing Concord 14-4 in six innings in the Class 4A Warsaw Sectional final.

The Raiders (20-9) host Penn Tuesday night in regional play. Penn beat Northridge in last year's regional contest at Penn 5-3 and also downed the Raiders 2-1 at Penn back on April 12.

Senior Abby Hostetler fired a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to pace the Raiders. She also had three RBI.

Grace Urbanski homered and Jenna Bible drove in two runs for the Raiders.

Jimtown topped Wawasee 6-1 in the finale of the Class 3A Wawasee Sectional.

The Jimmies (15-6) will play at Leo in regional action Tuesday night.

Kiyla Eberhart had a three-hitter to pace the Jimmies. The freshman pitcher made her first start in about six weeks as she has been dealing with a back issue.

Sophie Allen had three hits and Candra Yoder two hits and two RBI for Jimtown.

Evelyn Duncan smacked a homer for the Warriors, who finish 9-18.

No. 4 South Central beat Argos 16-0 to win the Class 1A LaCrosse Sectional title. The Satellites have won eight sectionals in a row and will host Morgan Township in reginal play Tuesday night. Argos beat Culver 11-6 in a semifinal game earlier Saturday.

Host Kankakee Valley topped John Glenn 4-0 in the title game of the Class 3A sectional. The Kougars host Hanover Central in regional play Tuesday night.

Westview edged Fairfield 3-2 and Bremen blitzed Prairie Heights 20-5 in semifinal games of the Class 2A Westview Sectional.

Westview went on to edge Bremen 1-0 in the sectional final. The Warriors play at an opponent to still be determined in regional action.
