Eleven hurt in Route 222 crash

Aug. 14—Eleven people were transported to local hospitals after a three-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon at Route 222 and Richmond Road in Richmond Township, Fleetwood police reported.

Police gave this account:

At about 4 p.m., A vehicle driven by Abdul Masud, 29, was traveling north on Richmond Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at Route 222, also known as Kutztown Road. The vehicle went on Route 222, where it was struck on the side by a vehicle driven by Zane Smith, 32. Smith's vehicle then ricocheted into a vehicle driven by Christopher Krewson, 46, which was on Richmond Road waiting to make a turn.

Police did not provide information on where the people involved in the crash reside.

Masud and Smith were transported to local hospitals, as were passengers Taspia Abdul, 21; Tasniha Abdul, 3 months; Saheda Akter, 47; Muhammad Absar, 58; Marcia Smith, 60; Krystal Smith, 25; Joseph Smith, 34; Harmony Smith, 12; and Kahdijah McDowell, 27. Police said the injuries were believed to be minor.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene. Police were assisted by personnel from the Walnuttown, Virginville and Fleetwood fire companys.

Police said the road remained open during the accident investigation, and the accident was cleared by about 5 p.m.
