Elected department officials, full-time employees to receive longevity pay

Orange County Auditor Lonnie Stroud presented the Salary Ordinances for Elected, Full-Time and Part-Time Employees when the County Council met on Nov. 18 at the County Complex.

Councilman Bob McDonald made the motion for part-time employees to receive a longevity allowance. Motion died without a second. The longevity pay for part-time was tabled for consideration at the next meeting.

The salary ordinance for elected and full-time employees was approved.

Councilman McDonald made a motion to clarify that the longevity pay approved was for full-time employees and full-time elected officials (not including the County Council or Commissioners), The motion was carried 4-1, with President Chad Hager voting against. A new ordinance will be drafted to reflect the clarification.

Auditor Stroud presented the meeting dates for 2022, and they were approved.

Auditor Stroud received verbal permission for an appropriation to have an overlap of a position for training. He also reported on the State Board of Accounts audit progress and that the Budget Notice was received, reviewed and sent back with no changes.

In other county department reports, Sheriff Josh Babcock gave the County Council a detailed report for October 2021 and reported that the Jail population at the time of the meeting was 81.

Orange County Highway Superintendent Carl Anderson reported on the emergency culvert replacement and Bridge #148 replacement. The closure for Bridge #148 has been scheduled for one month, but he hoped it would be less if the weather cooperates.

There was a discussion on the progress of the future Orange County Judicial and Government Center (former JSI) building. It was confirmed that there is only planning being done at this time and there is space that has been rented to help cover the bond payment.
