Eldorado hires baseball, girls soccer coaches

Jun. 23—Eldorado High School has moved swiftly to hire new head coaches in baseball and girls soccer.

The baseball job was both vacated and filled within just a few days. Reid Figiel resigned following the season — which just ended last Saturday — and Eldorado has promoted one of its alumni, longtime (1990-2010) Sandia High coach Mike Robertson, to succeed him.

Meanwhile, Eldorado has also hired Aaron Forrester to take over the school's girls soccer program. Andrew Wiese left the Eagles a couple of weeks ago to coach his alma mater, Albuquerque Academy, where his daughter plays.

Robertson, 55 and a 1984 EHS graduate, has been coaching Eldorado's junior varsity the last four seasons. "It's just nice to get an opportunity to come back in the community I grew up in," he said.

Figiel had coached the Eldorado varsity since 2017.

Robertson said he anticipates this likely will be the final head coaching stop of his career.

"It's kind of a close thing, to end my coaching career where you started in your high school career (as a player)," he said.

Forrester, formerly a club coach in Albuquerque, also will have a chance to coach his daughter at Eldorado.
