EDUCATION NOTEBOOK: Adams announces 2022 student essay and slogan contest

Dec. 4—Blake Vickers

Secretary of State Michael G. Adams has announced an essay and slogan contest for students in the commonwealth.

According to a release from Adam's office, Kentucky students in ninth through 12th grades can submit essays, while those in sixth through eighth grades can submit slogans. The theme of both challenges center around poll workers for elections.

Specifically, the essay question asks students what Kentucky can do to recruit more poll workers, while the slogan challenge asks students to come up with a slogan that promotes working the polls.

The high school students undertaking the essay should limit their submission to 1,000 words.

"To open the polls, we need poll workers. My twin challenges as Secretary of State are to ensure smooth elections and to enhance civic knowledge and participation, and this contest supports both missions," Adams said in a press release.

The deadline for submission is Jan. 31, 2023. Essays and slogans can be submitted to the Secretary of State's Office electronically or by mail.
