New data from the Monster shows that the field of education is garnering increased attention during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Monster career expert Vicki Salemi tells Yahoo Finance that job searches and postings have spiked as the nation tries to figure out its back-to-school situation. Searches for “education” and “teacher” have increased dramatically since April.

“The top three [positions] are teachers and instructors, instructional designers, and technologists. So thinking about the roles that people are teaching in the current curriculum and methodology, involving technology, and this new normal,” she says.

Salemi says that tutor positions have been on the rise in July and August compared to the same time last year. Monster data also show that there has been an increase in the need for specific skills within the field of education, such as tutoring, flexibility, dependability, online training, and verbal communication.

Salemi says there are variety of needs prompting the spike in the field. And perhaps the biggest, she says, is the collective adjustment to “the new normal” that has come out of the pandemic.

“We’re seeing parents with the challenging aspect of knowing this is the new normal. And so there’ll be another semester of e-learning at home. A year ago, remote learning for schools wasn’t really on the table. So now as a ‘new normal’ … we’re seeing the need for educators thinking, ‘Okay, how can I still have an effective, impactful ... role with students, but in a way that’s embracing this new technology based on the current situation.’”
