Edgewood boys' soccer keeps season alive at sectional

GREENCASTLE — Shut out six times. Losers of not one but two penalty kick shootouts in conference play.

Down, but not out. Not yet anyway, as the Edgewood boys' 1-13 soccer team pulled out a 1-0 victory over South Vermillion to begin play in the Class 2A Greencastle Sectional on Tuesday.

Luke Cool had the lone goal in the first half for the Mustangs, who reversed a 2-1 loss to the Wildcats in the regular season and snapped an eight-game skid.

They advance to play Northview (6-9) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, following a tussle between Monday's winners, Greencastle (14-2-1), 9-1 over Owen Valley, and Brown County (3-10), 1-0 over West Vigo.

It was Edgewood's first shutout of the season.
