Edgefield gets into holiday spirit with annual Christmas parade

Dec. 5—Christmas music and joyful sights were spotted up and down downtown Edgefield during the 49th annual Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 4.

The parade featured over 100 floats from small businesses, schools and marching bands. The festivities were capped off with a visit from Santa as the parade moved down Main Street.

Saniya Watkins, with S and S Cheer and Dance in Edgefield, was happy to display the dancers' talents in the hometown parade.

"We are a part of our community and we can show that this is our community and this is what we do every year." Watkins said. "If you are not here, you are missing a good show, and I hope everybody enjoyed it."

Steven Weaver, who is on the Edgefield parade committee, enjoyed showcasing the holiday spirit with all the spectators and participants who came into town.

"It's just a joy that you see in the kids' faces, the parents. The participation that we get and we are hoping to grow it more and more," Weaver said. "It is bringing out the community and we have people coming from different areas. We got participation from North Augusta, Aiken, Augusta, Ridge Spring, Saluda and the surrounding areas. It has just been great."

During the parade, Frank Davis was honored with a plaque as the Christmas parade Grand Marshal. Davis is known as the 'Voice of Edgefield County' for his radio work and serves on several local committees.
