Normally a successful 38-yard field goal isn’t a newsworthy NFL happening. Even when it marks the first points of the NFL season.
But when the Chicago Bears are involved, it’s a different story.
The Bears got on the board first in Thursday’s NFL kickoff game against the Green Bay Packers thanks to the 38-yard kick from Eddy Pineiro that gave Chicago a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter.
Sigh of relief
It was a no-doubter off Pineiro’s right foot that hit dead center between the uprights.
It’s the exact start Pineiro needed to his Bears career.
Bears’ kicking woes
The Bears lost that game. Soldier Field booed Parkey. And the kicking position has been the biggest story of the Bears offseason.
A make for Pineiro doesn’t necessarily point to future success as the Bears kicker, of course. But it was certainly a much better alternative than a miss.
