Ed Sheeran says he's tested positive for COVID-19 — hours after being announced as next 'SNL' musical guest

Ed Sheeran has tested positive for COVID-19.
The British musician, 30, took to social media on Sunday to announce his diagnosis, which comes just days before the release of his latest album, =, which is set to come out on Oct. 29.
On his Instagram page, Sheeran shared a message to explain his upcoming absence from interviews and performances in the upcoming weeks. He shared that while he cannot be there in person, he will do his best to participate virtually.
"Hey guys. Quick note to tell you that I’ve sadly tested positive for COVID, so I’m now self-isolating and following government guidelines. It means that I’m now unable to plough ahead with any in-person commitments for now, so I’ll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house," wrote Sheeran. "Apologies to anyone I’ve let down. Be safe everyone x."
On Saturday evening, it was announced that Sheeran would perform as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live on Nov. 6 opposite Kieran Culkin, who will be making his hosting debut on the show. Thus far, there has been no announcement whether Sheeran will have to cancel his appearance, which would be his third on the hit NBC series.

In his announcement, Sheeran did not specify whether anyone else in his household has contracted COVID-19. In September 2020, Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn announced the arrival of their daughter, Lyra Antarctica.
