In case you missed it, Amazon’s Echo Dot recently got a makeover. Gone is the squat cylinder you know and love—it’s been replaced by a sleek sphere of awesome. And, for the day after Christmas, Amazon is giving you a chance to score the Echo Dot (fourth generation) with Amazon Smart Plug for just $40 (was $75).

The next-gen Dot has all of the features you love from the old versions, packed into a sleek design with really great sound. Enjoy crisp vocals and balanced bass while you stream songs from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, SiriusXM and more.Want a smart home? Now’s the time! If you have a phone in your pocket and a Wi-Fi network at home, you’re well on your way to building a smart home.

And if you have Amazon Prime, you’ll get free shipping, of course. Not yet a member? No problem. You can sign up for your free 30-day trial here. (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $25 or more.)

Echo Dot (fourth generation)

Reviewers swear the sound quality is the best ever for a Dot. “Tiny size. Phenomenal sound,” one Dot fan wrote. “I have almost every single version of the Echo and Echo dot in my house for an easy to use Spotify music setup to surround my upstairs with music but this little orb is the best sounding of the lot.” Another called this the “best Dot ever,” adding that “the sound is excellent for its size.”

And, of course, Alexa is there to help with just about anything you need: Playing the news, cranking up the music, setting reminders, telling you the weather and giving the final word in an argument.

You can also use your Dot to turn on lights, adjust your thermostats and even lock doors with compatible devices. At prices like this, you can snatch up Dots for several rooms in your house—and then use them as intercoms to talk to people in the next room.

“This is exactly what I am looking for,” raved a satisfied Amazon shopper. “This fits perfectly in my bathroom after my Sony shower radio malfunctioned and was discontinued. The sound is loud and clear. Now I am able to hear all online stations with no interference. The design is space-saving, with rubber underneath to prevent sliding.”

Privacy concerns? The Echo Dot is built with multiple layers of protection, such as a physical button that turns off its microphone and disconnects it from your home Wi-Fi network.

Amazon Smart Plug

The bundle includes the Amazon Smart Plug (a $25 value), which can easily pair with the Echo Dot. Simply plug one of these into a wall outlet, then plug in anything like a lamp, a TV or even a coffeemaker.

Then connect the plug to your Wi-Fi network and use your phone to sync to the Alexa app (for Android smartphones and Apple iPhones). That’s it! Now you can control just about anything in your home with your phone or just the sound of your voice via Alexa.

“This is the easiest smart plug ever,” shared a delighted five-star reviewer. “You just plug it in and open the Alexa app...It’s ready to use! Unlike other smart plugs that are sitting in my drawer because it was impossible to connect them to my Wi-Fi, and forget help from customer service, it worked immediately. Simple and worth the purchase. One more thing Alexa can now do for me.”

The reviews quoted above reflect the most recent versions at the time of publication.
