Mila Marwa is now in a race against time to find her sister Kioni as EastEnders continues its storyline based around FGM.

Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) was stunned to learn earlier this week that Mila (Ruhtxjiaïh Bèllènéa) was trying to keep her younger sister Kioni away from their family to protect her from FGM.

While Kioni told Mila their mum planned to take her on a secret holiday, Mila recognised the darker implications since she was told the same lie when she was cut years earlier.

In Thursday's (May 27) episode, Kathy's first step was to let Kioni stay with the Beales and then left an unassuming Bobby (Clay Milner Russell) to keep an eye on Kioni at all times.

Kathy argued that they needed to go to the police, but Mila was resistant because any such move would put her entire adult family and many in her community at risk of being imprisoned.

"I'll think of something," Mila vowed. "I'll find a way, I swear. Please, Kathy."

During the time when Kathy and Mila were out of the house, Bobby was asked out on a date by his new love interest Dana. Kioni convinced Bobby she'd be fine alone, so he went along on the date.

By the time Kathy and Mila returned home, Bobby explained that he'd got a call from Kioni explaining that her mum had picked her up.

"It's not a problem, is it?" Bobby asked them.

Mila was horrified to have lost track of her sister since Kioni was completely unaware of what their mum was planning.

EastEnders continues on Friday (May 27) on BBC One.
