Eagleville softball assistant coach Tommy Bain 'OK' after collapsing during game

Eagleville assistant softball coach Tommy Bain, who collapsed while coaching third base during the Lady Eagles' 4-3 win over Huntland Friday, is "OK," according to good friend Mike Linton.

Bain, a non-faculty assistant, collapsed during the sixth inning of the TSSAA Class 1A state softball tournament winners bracket game. It was caused by an undisclosed condition, Linton said.

"He's shook up," said Linton, the father of Lady Eagles star pitcher Addisyn Linton. "It was a scary moment. His condition is OK and he's alert. They will probably hold him overnight, and we'll see about tomorrow."

Eagleville will play either Huntland or Jo Byrns (which play at 9 a.m. Saturday) in Saturday's championship at 2 p.m. at Starplex.

Bain fell to the ground just after Addisyn Linton drove in the tying run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The game was stopped and Bain was later helped to his feet and assisted to the dugout, where emergency personnel talked with him before he walked to an ambulance after about 15 minutes and taken to St. Thomas Rutherford.

After play resumed, Bain's daughter, Bella, hit a slow rolling single down third base line that allowed the go-ahead run to score. His other daughter, freshman catcher Brinli Bain, scored the tying run during the sixth.

"He was alert when he left," Mike Linton said. "He made the ambulance driver wait (until the last out of the game to leave). It shook him up a bit, being carted off the field knowing the girls still had one more inning. He's a fierce competitor. I love that dude."
