Eagles on the road in Wyoming

Jun. 24—Four of the Jamestown Post 14 baseball team's last five games have been shutouts — pretty good numbers headed into the team's first tournament of the year.

The Eagles headed to Gillette, Wyoming on Thursday for the annual Gillette tournament held at Hdlacky Stadium Thursday through Sunday. The Eagles will enter the tourney hot, having not dropped a game since losing two games to Fargo Post 400 to start the season back on June 9.

The Eagles are 8-2 overall. Following the tournament, the Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday hosting Valley City. The single-nine-inning-gamer is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at Jack Brown Stadium.

The squad's most recent win came against West Region newcomer, the Bismarck Scarlets, Monday night in the capital city. Post 14 easily defeated the Scarlets 10-2 and 14-0, opening up scoring right away in game No. 1.

Jacoby Nold's single on a 2-1 count scored one run for the Eagles, with more runs to come in the top of the third. The Scarlets evened things up at two apiece but explosive fourth and fifth innings by the Eagles were too much to handle.

Nold, along with Nolan Nenow and Gage Orr, all notched RBIs to make it 10-2 in the top of the fifth. The Eagles tallied 10 hits compared to the Scarlets' five. Mason Lunzman toed the rubber for Jamestown allowing two runs off five hits across four innings. Lunzman gave up just one walk and retired three in the batter's box.

Nenow and Michael Mahoney each managed to go 2-for-3 at the plate while Orr, went .500 in game No. 1.

The hot streak continued into the second game when Payton Hochhalter didn't allow a single run to help the Eagles shut out the Scarlets. Hochhalter allowed just six hits.

No runs surrendered couldn't be accomplished by the Scarlets' pitcher. The Eagles rifled off eight hits in the first inning alone. Max Fronk, Brooks Roaldson, Hochhalter, Mahoney and Lunzman all moved runners across the plate for RBIs. Fronk got the Eagles on the board, doubling on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.

On defense, the Eagles were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Lunzman had the most chances in the field with five.

Prior to handily defeating the Scarlets, the Eagles finished up a four-game week on Friday at Jack Brown Stadium. The Eagles cruised to easy 10-0 and 13-0 victories over the visiting Williston Oilers.
